Sydney, New South Wales; East Sale; Bairnsdale; Lucknow, Victoria
On Sunday 5 January 2019, Their Excellencies, General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley, travelled from Sydney to Bairnsdale, Victoria.
There, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor John White, Mayor, East Gippsland Shire Council, and Ms Anne McArthur OAM, Chair, Red Cross Victoria Divisional Advisory Board, visited the Bairnsdale Relief Centre at the Bairnsdale Football Pavilion and met with volunteers and families who had been evacuated from fire affected regions in East Gippsland, Victoria.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms Wendy McPhan and Ms Jodie Crane, Centre Organisers, visited the Lucknow Memorial Hall Donation Centre and met with volunteers collecting supplies for those affected by bushfires.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Wing Commander James Allen, Base Commander, visited the RAAF Base East Sale Relief Centre and met with multi-agency staff and volunteers assisting in the evacuation of residents from bushfire affected regions in East Gippsland.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley returned to Sydney, New South Wales.
