Sydney, New South Wales; Kangaroo Island, Adelaide, Lobethal, South Australia

On Tuesday 7 January 2020, Their Excellencies, General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley, travelled to Kangaroo Island, South Australia.

On arrival, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Mark Jones, Chief Officer, Country Fire Service (CFS), met with Michael Pengilly, Mayor, Kangaroo Island Council, and Brigadier Damian Cantwell AM, Commander, JTF 1111, for a briefing on the Kangaroo Island bushfire response at Kingscote Airport.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mayor Pengilly, met with community members affected by bushfires at Parndana, Kangaroo Island.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Chief Officer Jones, visited the SA CFS Headquarters to receive a briefing on the status of bushfire response and recovery, and meet with CFS staff and volunteers.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr James Tilbrook, Owner, visited the Tilbrook Estate Winery to inspect damage following bushfires around Lobethal and the Adelaide Hills.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Ross Pinney, President, Red Cross Australia, visited the Lobethal Recovery Centre and met with staff and volunteers from organisations assisting with bushfire relief, and community members affected by the Adelaide Hills bushfires.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley returned to Admiralty House, Sydney.
