On Sunday 20 October 2019, following the departure of the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), from Australia on a visit to Japan to attend the enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan, the proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia was signed by the Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC.

After arriving in Tokyo, Japan, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley, as guests of Mr Steve Loader, Director, International Wheelchair Rugby Federation, attended the 2019 Rugby World Cup Quarter Final Match between Japan and South Africa.
