On Thursday 19 May 2016, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Patron, and Lady Cosgrove, met with members of the Salvation Army and local school captains to mark the launch of the 2016 Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal door knock.

Afterwards, at RAAF Base Amberley, the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, and Lady Cosgrove, met with the Senior ADF Officer, Air Commodore Scott Winchester, and the Base Military Leadership team.

Later, the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief and Parade Reviewing Officer, and Lady Cosgrove, attended the Number 36 Squadron Colours Consecration and Laying Up parade, at which the Governor-General presented the new Number 36 Squadron Standard.

Then, at Greenslopes Hospital, Brisbane, the Governor-General met with Mr Cecil Kenwrick, a WWII Veteran and centenarian.
