On Thursday, 14 June 2007, Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery, as guests of the Tiwi Land Council, commenced an official visit to the Tiwi Islands.

On Melville Island, the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery: visited Milikapiti School and attended a musical performance by students; attended a ceremony at Three Ways where the Governor-General unveiled a plaque dedicated to the Three Ways of Tiwi Determination; toured Port Melville and the Melville timber yard; and met local community leaders at Munupi Lodge, Pirlangimpi; and afterwards, at Pirlangimpi Beach viewed a traditional pantomime by local children prior to attending, as guests of honour, a community luncheon. In the afternoon, at Bathurst Island, the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery visited: Tiwi Design; the Nguiu Museum and viewed exhibits of Tiwi history; the Nguiu Diversionary Unit Centre, at which the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery attended afternoon tea with community leaders, local youth, footballers and Northern Force Army cadets; and the Nguwanajirri Disability Art Centre.
