On Thursday 24 June 2010, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General administered the Instrument of Appointment and Affirmation of Office to the newly appointed Prime Minister, the Honourable Julia Gillard MP.
In the morning, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Mouayed Saleh, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq. The Ambassador was accompanied by Dr Ahmed Saleh (Counsellor) and Mr Muhsin Al-Samaraee (Deputy Consul-General). The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE also received Mrs Rita Abdullah and Mr Mustafa Saleh. Afterwards, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Nelson Davila Lameda, Letters of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Azdruval Figueroa (First Secretary). The Governor-General and Mr Bryce also received Mrs Cisneros De Davila. Later, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Pedro Pablo Diaz Herrera, Letters of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador of the Republic of Chile. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Eugenio Del Solar (First Secretary) and Colonel Mauricio Araya (Defence Attaché). The Governor-General and Mr Bryce also received Mrs Vergara Salas and Ms Maria Magdalena Diaz Vergara. Then, the Governor-General received the Founder of The Catherine Freeman Foundation, Ms Catherine Freeman OAM, and General Manager, Ms Carol Ross. In the evening, at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, Mr Bryce attended the Defence Reserves Support Council (ACT / South-East NSW) Employer Support Awards dinner. Earlier, at Defence Establishment Fairbairn, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Canberra of the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, His Excellency Dr Jose Ramos-Horta, by Mr Mark Fraser OAM, Deputy Official Secretary to the Governor-General.
