On Thursday 26 February 2009, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received from His Excellency Dato Salman bin Ahmad, Letters of Commission accrediting him as the High Commissioner for Malaysia. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Mr Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin (Deputy High Commissioner), Mr Alias Yahaya (Counsellor), Colonel Mohd Hassan Loman (Defence Adviser) High Commission of Malaysia. The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE also received Mrs Karina Yusoff.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Lenin Magigwane Shope, Letters of Commission accrediting him as the High Commissioner for the Republic of South Africa. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Mr Mauritz Lindeque (Counsellor) High Commission of the Republic of South Africa. Then, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Rangsy Kongsaysy, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Ambassador of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Sisavath Khamsaly (First Secretary) and Mr Kingphokeo Phommahaxay (Second Secretary) Embassy of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. Later, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Gian Ludovico de Martino di Montegiordano, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Pier Attinio Forlano (Counsellor), Mr Adriano Antonio Tedde (First Secretary) and Colonel Mario Tassini (Defence Attache) Embassy of the Republic of Italy. The Governor-General also received Mrs Camilla de Martino di Montegiordano. In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted to lunch: the High Commissioner for Malaysia and Mrs Karina Yusoff; the High Commissioner for the Republic of South Africa; the Ambassador of the Lao People's Democratic Republic; the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy and Mrs Camilla de Martino di Montegiordano; the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Mrs Chum Chantheary; the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco and Mrs Samira Affane Aji; Mr Michael Brown and Mrs Jill Brown; Mr Bernie Delaney; Mr Brian Doolan and Ms Catherine Esposito; Professor Stephanie Fahey; Ms Dimity Fifer; Mr Romaldo Giurgola AO and Ms Paola Giurgola; the Reverend Professor James Haire AM DD; Emeritus Professor Virginia Hooker; Mr Archie Law and Mrs Jenny Law; Mr Michael L'Estrange AO; Professor Timothy Lindsey; Mr Bruce Loveday and Mrs Jenny Loveday; Professor Anthony Milner AM and Mrs Claire Milner; Ms Anne Moores; Mr Hassan M'Souli and Mrs Najma M'Souli; Mr Raymond Najar and Mrs Sabah Najar; Professor Franco Papandrea; Mr Peter Smedley and Mrs Christine Smedley; Mr Gary Stafford; and Mr Salvatore Zofrea and Ms Stephanie Claire. In the evening, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted a reception for participants of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women's Summit.
