On Thursday 28 August 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC received from His Royal Highness Crown Prince Tupouto'a-Lavaka, Letters of Commission accrediting him as the High Commissioner for the Kingdom of Tonga. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Mr Va'inga Tone (Secretary for Foreign Affairs) and Mr Leimoni Taufu'I (Deputy High Commissioner-designate) High Commission for the Kingdom of Tonga. The Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Marlena Jeffery also received Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Nanasipau'u Tuku'aho.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Daniel Woker, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Claude Barbey (Counsellor), Embassy of the Swiss Confederation. Their Excellencies also received Mrs Myriam Woker. Later, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Yannis Iacovou, Letters of Commission accrediting him as the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus. Their Excellencies also received Mrs Maria Iacovou. Then, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Yerlan Baudarbek-Kozhatayev, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Bulat Sugurbayev (Third Secretary), Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Afterwards, Their Excellencies hosted to lunch: the High Commissioner for the Kingdom of Tonga and Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Nanasipau'u Tuku'aho; the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation and Mrs Myriam Woker; the High Commissioner for the Republic of Cyprus and Mrs Maria Iacovou; the Ambassador for the Republic of Kazakhstan; Emeritus Professor Don Aitkin AO and Mrs Beverley Aitkin; Mr Stephen Brady; Dr Geoffrey Clark and Ms Kirsten Lawson; Dr Loretta Giorcelli OAM and Mr Kevin Robinson; Emeritus Professor Richard Green and Professor Margaret Clunies Ross; the Honourable Duncan Kerr SC MP; the Reverend Jason Kioa and Mrs Fotolina Kioa; Mr Michael L'Estrange AO; Mr Don Matthews and Mrs Sue Matthews; Mr Christopher Peters AM and Mrs Josephine Peters; Mr Peter Pluess and Mrs Kim Pluess; Ms Louise Raedler-Waterhouse and Mr Guenther Raedler; Mr Va'inga Tone; and Dr Elizabeth Wood-Ellem and Dr Niel Gunson.
