On Thursday 3 May 2007, at Government House, Canberra, Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery received a farewell call by the Ambassador of the State of Eritrea, His Excellency Mr Asmerom Abraha Ma'Ashio and Mrs Ezabel Ghebresellassie Tekle.

Afterwards, at the Australian-American Memorial, Russell ACT, Their Excellencies attended the Australian-American Association Canberra Division Commemorative Service to mark the 65th Anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea, at which the Governor-General delivered the keynote address and laid a wreath. In the evening, at the Great Hall, Parliament House, ACT, the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery attended the Australian Academy of Science Annual Formal Dinner, at which the Governor-General delivered the keynote address.
