On Thursday 6 March 2008, at University House, Australian National University, Canberra, Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery and Mrs Marlena Jeffery attended the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation International Leadership Alumni Conference, at which the Governor-General delivered the opening address.

In the afternoon, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General received the Australian Ambassador-designate to The Kingdom of the Netherlands, Ms Lydia Morton. Later, Their Excellencies hosted a Garden Party for members of the Diplomatic Corps and other community representatives.
