On Monday 1 May 2017, at the Battle of the Coral Sea Memorial, Townsville, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of the Naval Association of Australia Townsville and District Sub-Section, Mr Trevor Williams, attended a Dawn Service for the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea.
Afterwards, onboard HMAS Choules, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Commanding Officer, Commander David Graham CSC RAN, viewed the ship and met with members of Ship’s Company and embarked forces.
Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Tim Barrett AO CSC RAN, attended the at sea commemorative service for the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea.
Then, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Tim Barrett AO CSC RAN, attended a lunch.
