On Tuesday 18 August 2009, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received a farewell call by the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Michael L'Estrange AO.
Afterwards, at the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial, Canberra, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended the Vietnam Veterans' Remembrance Day Service at which the Governor-General laid a wreath. In the afternoon, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted to lunch His Excellency Judge Thomas Buergenthal and Mrs Peggy Buergenthal; the Honourable Chief Justice Robert French and Mrs Valerie French; and the Michael D Kirby Professor of International Law University of Melbourne, Professor Anne Orford. In the evening, at the Royal Hall of Industries, Sydney, the Governor-General attended the 20th Anniversary of the Australian Museum Eureka Prizes and presented the 2009 Australian Government Eureka Prize for Promoting Understanding of Science and the 2009 Sherman Eureka Prize for Environmental Research.
