On Tuesday 18 November 2008, at the Sydney Convention Centre, the Administrator, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, officially opened the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia's Annual Scientific Meeting.
Earlier, in Singapore, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Director of Changi Museum, Mr Jeyathurai Ayadurai, toured the museum and laid a wreath at the Changi Chapel. Afterwards, the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, met with Australian Defence Force personnel on exercise in Singapore. Later, at Nee Soon Camp, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Minister for Defence, Mr Teo Chee Hean, and the Chief of Army, Major General Neo Kian, visited the Singaporean Armed Forces Army Medical Services Headquarters and received a briefing on the Singaporean/Australian bilateral defence relationship; toured the Medical Heritage Centre; and met with Singaporean Armed Forces personnel soon to be deployed to Afghanistan alongside Australian Defence Force personnel. In the afternoon, at the residence of the Australian High Commissioner, His Excellency Mr Doug Chester, the Governor-General attended a luncheon with senior Singaporean women. Afterwards, at the Australian High Commission, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce met with High Commission staff and representatives of the Australian community in Singapore. Later, at the Presidential Palace, Istana, the Governor-General received the Singaporean Senior Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong. Then, the Governor-General received the Singaporean Minister Mentor, Mr Lee Kuan Yew.
