On Tuesday 24 February 2009, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE received the President of the Republic of Malta, His Excellency Dr Edward Fenech Adami KUOM BA LL.D and Mrs Mary Fenech Adami.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce received the Attorney General of the United Kingdom, the Right Honourable Baroness Scotland QC. The Baroness was accompanied by the British High Commissioner to Australia, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Helen Liddell; and the Principal Private Secretary to the Baroness, Ms Wendy Hart. In the Afternoon, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted a State Luncheon in honour of the President of the Republic of Malta and Mrs Fenech Adami. Guests included: the Honourable Dr Tonio Borg; His Excellency Mr Francis Tabone; Mr Anthony Attard; Mr Olaph Terribile; Mr Darren Borg; Mr Pierre Cauchi; Captain Stefan Camilleri; Ms Christine Mercieca; Dr Peter Attard; the Honourable John Aquilina MP and Mrs Ann Aquilina; Mr Philip Bonnici and Mrs Carmen Bonnici; Mr Sydney Borg and Mrs Sharon Borg; Mr Roderick Bovingdon; Professor Maurice Cauchi AM and Mrs Agnes Cauchi; the Honourable Chief Justice Robert French and Mrs Val French; the Honourable David Hawker MP; Senator the Honourable John Hogg; His Excellency Mr Jurek Juszczyk and Mrs Malgosia Korsun-Juszczyk; Her Excellency Mrs Marta Ortiz de Rosas and Mr Jorge Carvajal; Air Vice Marshal Jack Plenty AM; Mr Frank Scicluna OAM; the Honourable Stephen Smith MP; Mr Emmanuel Spiteri; and Mr Lino Vella AM. Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Stephen Smith MP. Later, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted a reception for the Commission on the Status of Women at which the short firm Yijilarra was screened. Earlier, at Holy Family Church, Gowrie, Mr Bryce attended the funeral service for the late ACT fire fighter, Mr David Balfour. Afterwards, at Defence Establishment Fairbairn, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the President of the Republic of Malta, His Excellency Dr Edward Fenech Adami KUOM BA LL.D, by Mr Stephen Brady, Official Secretary to the Governor-General.
