On Tuesday, 28 August 2007, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC received the Australian Ambassador-designate to the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Dr Michele Forster.

Later, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Marlena Jeffery received the President of the Wattle Day Association, Mr Terry Fewtrell, and Committee member, Mr??Edwin Ride, accompanied by the Head of College, Orana School, Ms Olga Blasch with Year 6 students, Miss Emily Fraser and Master Piri Goodman, who presented Their Excellencies with a basket of wattle to mark National Wattle Day. In the evening, Their Excellencies hosted a reception for students attending the Australian National Internships Program conducted by the Australian National University.
