On Tuesday 29 May 2007, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC received the Australian Ambassador-designate to Italy, the Honourable Amanda Vanstone.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received Emeritus Professor Anthony Johns, Emeritus Professor and Visiting Fellow, Division of Pacific and Asian History, Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, Australian National University. In the evening, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Marlena Jeffery hosted a musical evening for the Friends of Opera Committee. Earlier, the Governor-General was represented at Brisbane International Airport at the arrival in Australia of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency Ludwig Scotty MP, by Brigadier Andrew Smith, an Honorary Aide de-Camp.
