On Tuesday 4 August 2009, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE hosted a dinner in honour of the Honourable Sir James Gobbo AC CVO at the conclusion of his term of office as Chairman of the Council for the Order of Australia. Guests included: Lady Shirley Gobbo; Dr Lyndsay Connors AM and Dr Jim McMorrow; Mr Charles Curwen CVO OBE; Dr Sue Gordon AM; Mr Neville Grayson AM and Mrs Lyn Grayson; Mrs Teresa Hart; Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston AC AFC and Mrs Liz Houston; Professor Andrea Hull AO; Mr Duncan Lewis AO DSC CSC and Mrs Jennifer Lewis; Mr Greg Mackie OAM; Professor John Shine AO; Mr John Trevillian AM; Mr Patrick Vidgen and Ms Helen Vidgen; and Mr Malcolm Wauchope.

Earlier, at Parliament House, Canberra, Mr Bryce attended a Conferring of Awards Ceremony for the Faculty of Arts and Design of the University of Canberra. Then, at Government House, Canberra, Mr Bryce, as Patron, received the President of the Capital Arts Patrons Organisation, Ms Ann McMahon; the Executive Officer of the Capital Arts Patrons Organisation, Ms Marilyn Gray; and the Capital Arts Patrons Organisation Board Member and Senior Curator of the National Portrait Gallery, Mr Michael Desmond.
