On Tuesday 7 October 2008, in Broken Hill, NSW, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended a morning tea at the Broken Hill Royal Flying Doctor Service Operations Centre.

Afterwards, at the Menindee Rural Transition Centre, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce toured Menindee Lakes. The Governor-General and Mr Bryce then attended a luncheon with local pastoralists and water management experts. Later, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce visited the Thankakali Arts Centre and viewed a performance by the Youth, Excellence, Arts and Health (YEAH) Dance Group. Then, at the Barrier Ranges, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of Paakantji Elder, Ms Maureen O'Donnell; Broken Hill City Councillor, Mr Geoff Laan; and Broken Hill City Council Living Desert Ranger, Mr Darryl Ford, viewed the Sculpture Symposium. In the evening, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Broken Hill City Council, attended a Civic Reception hosted in their honour at the Broken Hill Art Gallery, by the Administrator of Broken Hill City Council, Mr Ken Boyle.
