On Tuesday 9 June 2009, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General issued the Oaths and Affirmations to the newly appointed Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries: Senator the Honourable John Philip Faulkner, Minister for Defence; Senator the Honourable Joseph William Ludwig, Special Minister of State, the Honourable Christopher Eyles Bowen MP, Minister for Financial Services, Superannuation and Corporate Law, and Minister for Human Services; the Honourable Dr Craig Anthony Emerson MP, Minister for Small Business, Independent Contractors and the Service Economy, Minister Assisting the Finance Minister on Deregulation, and Minister for Competition Policy and Consumer Affairs; Senator the Honourable Nicholas John Sherry, Assistant Treasurer; the Honourable Brendan Patrick John O'Connor MP, Minister for Home Affairs; the Honourable Warren Edward Snowdon MP, Minister for Indigenous Health, Rural and Regional Health and Regional Services Delivery; the Honourable Katherine Margaret Ellis MP, Minister for Early Childhood Education, Childcare and Youth; the Honourable Gregory Ivan Combet AM MP, Minister for Defence Personnel, Material and Science, and Minister Assisting the Minister for Climate Change; Senator the Honourable Mark Victor Arbib, Minister for Employment Participation, and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on Government Service Delivery; the Honourable Maxine Margaret McKew MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government; the Honourable Gary Gray AO MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Western and Northern Australia; the Honourable Jason Dean Clare MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Employment; the Honourable Mr Mark Christopher Butler MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Health; the Honourable Richard Donald Marles MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Industry and Innovation.
The Governor-General also issued the Executive Councillor Affirmations and Oath to Mr Clare MP, Mr Butler MP and Mr Marles MP. In the afternoon, at Parliament House, Sydney, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a luncheon to celebrate the 135th anniversary of community service by the Infant's Home. Later, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General received the Chief Executive of the Australian Water Association, Mr Tom Mollenkopf; the President of the Australian Water Association, Mr Peter Robinson; and a Past President of the Australian Water Association, Mr David Barnes. Earlier, at Sydney International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the arrival in Australia by the Governor-General of New Zealand, His Excellency the Honourable Sir Anand Satyanand PCNZM QSO, by Commander Piers Chatterton ADC RAN, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
