On Wednesday 4 October 2017, at the United Arab Emirates, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as guest of the Commander of Combined Joint Task Force 633, Major General John Frewen AM, received a briefing on Australian Defence Force (ADF) operations in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Afterwards, at Hamid Karzai International Airport, Kabul, the Governor-General was welcomed to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan by the Chargé d’Affaires to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mr David Geyer and received a briefing.

Later, at Camp Qargha, Afghanistan, the Governor-General, as guest of Major General Frewen, met with ADF personnel involved in mentoring and training Afghanistan National Army soldiers and officers.

Then, at Resolute Support Base, Kabul, the Governor-General received a briefing by Mr David Geyer.

Afterwards, at the Presidential Palace, Kabul, the Governor-General, as guest of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, His Excellency Ashraf Ghani, attended a ceremonial welcome.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General met with His Excellency Ashraf Ghani.

Afterwards, the Governor-General, as a guest of His Excellency Ashraf Ghani, attended a lunch.

Later, at ANZAC Cove, Resolute Support Base, Kabul, the Governor-General, as a guest of Major General Frewen, met with ADF personnel and presided over a medal presentation ceremony.

Then, at Camp Grant, Kabul, the Governor-General, as a guest of Major General Frewen, met with ADF personnel and presided over a medal presentation ceremony.
