USS Peary Memorial Service; Bombing of Darwin Commemorative Service; Chief Minister's Reception; 'Battling: Territorians and their Way' exhibition
On Sunday 19 February 2012, at Bicentennial Park, Darwin, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Northern Territory President of the Australian-American Association, Mr Richard Setter, attended a service commemorating the sinking of the USS Peary, at which the Governor-General laid a wreath.
Afterwards, at the Darwin Cenotaph, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Lord Mayor of Darwin, the Right Worshipful Graeme Sawyer, attended a service commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin, at which the Governor-General gave an address and laid a wreath.
Later, at Parliament House, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, the Honourable Paul Henderson MLA, attended a reception at which the Governor-General gave an address.
Then, at the Mantra Hotel, the Governor-General received the Founder of the Nova Peris Girls’ Academy, Ms Nova Peris OAM.
In the afternoon, at the Vault Gallery, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of writers and historians, Mr Peter Forrest and Mrs Sheila Forrest, attended a reception at which the Governor-General officially opened the ‘Battling: Territorians and their Way’ exhibition.
