On Monday 25 April 2016 in Villers-Bretonneux, France, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, attended an Anzac Day Dawn Service at the Australian National Memorial, at which the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove laid a wreath and the Governor-General delivered a commemorative address.
Afterwards, at the Town Hall, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor of Villers-Bretonneux, Dr Patrick Simon AO, attended a breakfast.
Then, the Governor-General met with the French Minister of Defence, Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian.
Afterwards, at the Town War Memorial, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a Town Service, at which the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove laid a wreath.
In the evening, at the Arc de Triomphe, Paris, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, attended an official welcome to France and ‘Ravivage’ ceremony, at which the Governor-General laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown French Solider and using a sword, rekindled the flame.
