Visit to Albany
On Friday 31 October 2014, at the Vancouver Arts Centre, Albany, Western Australia, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor of the City of Albany, His Worshipful Dennis Wellington, attended a Council morning tea and met with key stakeholders and community volunteers..
Afterwards, the Governor-General, as Patron of Alzheimer’s Australia, and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Executive Officer of Alzheimer’s Australia – Western Australia, the Honourable Rhonda Parker, met with residents, families, staff and volunteers at Hawthorn House.
Later, in Mount Clarence, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of the Albany Returned and Services League (RSL), Mr Peter Aspinall, attended the Albany RSL Desert Mounted Corps memorial service.
Then, at the ANZAC Peace Park, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, attended the Royal Australian Navy Ceremonial Sunset to commemorate 100 years of the Albany Convoy.
In the evening, at the Albany Entertainment Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor of the City of Albany, attended a reception to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the departure of the first ANZAC convoy from Albany.
