Visit to Cairns

On Tuesday 12 May 2015, at TAFE North Cairns Campus, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, visited the Defence Indigenous Development Program and met with staff and Indigenous Recruits.

Afterwards, at HMAS Cairns, the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, and Lady Cosgrove, received an operations brief and base overview from the Commanding Officer, Commander Carl Capper RAN.

Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, visited HMAS Childers and received an operations brief from the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Commander Malcolm Strachan RAN, and met with the crew.

Then, at Cairns State High School, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Principal, Ms Angela Toppin, viewed refurbished classrooms and met with staff and students.
