Visit to the flood-affected areas of Ipswich and Grantham, Queensland
On Sunday 16 January 2011, at Ipswich, Queensland, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Mayor of Ipswich City Council, Councillor Paul Pisasale, met members of the Ipswich General Hospital where the Governor-General conveyed her admiration of the efforts of health services personnel during the flood crisis.
Afterwards, at Karalee, Ipswich, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce inspected flood damage to local property, met with members of the local community affected by the recent floods, and thanked local volunteers and Australian Defence Force personnel involved in the recovery efforts.
Later, at the Ipswich State Emergency Service Headquarters, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce thanked State Emergency Service volunteers for their contribution during the floods and the ongoing recovery efforts.
Then, at the Ipswich Showgrounds, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce assisted with the serving of lunch to evacuees and met with volunteers.
In the afternoon, in Grantham, Queensland, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Mayor of Lockyer Valley Regional Council, Councillor Steve Jones, met with Australian Defence Force and Queensland Police Service personnel involved in the search and recovery operations.
Afterwards, at Grantham State School, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce met with members of the local community affected by the recent floods.
