Visit to the flood affected New South Wales towns of Moree and Wee Waa

On Tuesday 7 February 2012 at Moree, New South Wales, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Mayor of Moree Plains Shire Council, Councillor Katrina Humphries, inspected flood damage to local properties and infrastructure.

Afterwards, at the Max Centre, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce received a briefing from the local SES controller and General Manager of the Moree Plains Shire Council on the impact of the floods and recovery plan.

Later, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce met with residents, volunteers and community service providers at the Moree Recovery Centre.

Then, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce met with residents of flood affected properties in Yarraman.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the owners, Mr Peter Glennie and Mrs Barbara Glennie, visited the Norwood Cotton property to view the damage to crops from the recent floods.

Afterwards, at Wee Waa, New South Wales, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, accompanied by Narrabri Council Members, Councillor Conrad Bolton and Councillor Ron Lowder, and as guests of the Principal of Wee Waa Public School, Ms Dorothee Lean, met with students, teachers and parents from each of Wee Waa’s four schools.

Later, at the Wee Waa SES Headquarters, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Regional Controller, Ms Kathleen Cain, thanked emergency services personnel, local volunteers and support groups involved in the relief efforts.

Then, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Director, Ms Wendy Phelps, met with staff, nurses and residents at the Weeronga Aged Care Hostel.

Afterwards, at the Namoi Echo Museum, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the President of the Wee Waa and District Historical Society, Mr Ken Wells, attended an afternoon tea with local business owners, volunteers and residents.
