Visit to the flood-affected towns of Alpha, Jericho and Emerald, Queensland
On Thursday 6 January 2011, at Alpha, Queensland, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Mayor of Barcaldine Regional Council, Councillor Rob Chandler, inspected flood damage to local infrastructure and met with members of the local community affected by recent floods and thanked emergency services personnel, local volunteers and support groups involved in the relief efforts.
In the afternoon, in Jericho, Queensland, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of Nurse, Ms Jane Williams, visited the Spiritus Bush Nursing Clinic.
Afterwards, at Jericho Town Hall, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce met with members of the local community affected by the recent floods and conveyed her admiration of emergency services personnel, local volunteers and support groups involved in the relief efforts.
Later, in Emerald, Queensland, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Mayor of Emerald Shire Council, Councillor Peter Maguire, visited the Central Highlands Region Flood Recovery Centre, and other emergency response facilities.
In the evening, at Emerald Town Hall, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a barbecue to thank members of the local community involved in flood recovery work.
