Visit to Horsham
On Wednesday 23 April 2014, in Horsham, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, were welcomed at the airport by the Mayor of Horsham, Councillor David Grimble and Mrs Jenny Grimble; and Councillors Robin Barber; Sue Exell; Heather Phillips and Mark Radford.
Afterwards, at the Horsham Regional Livestock Exchange, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Manager, Mr Paul Christopher, met with local farmers during sale day.
Later, at Meringa Springs Lodge, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Proprietors, Mr Paul Widmer and Mrs Gail Widmer, met with fire affected members of the local community and received a briefing by fire authorities.
Then, at the Old Wool Factory, Horsham, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the General Manager of Community Axis Enterprises, Mr Colin Barnett and the Manager of Axis Worx, Mr Bill Schmidt, met with employees and viewed e-waste, woodwork and computer workshops prior to attending a lunch with Axis Worx disability support staff.
Afterwards, at the Horsham and District University of the Third Age, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Deputy President, Mr Bob McIlvena, and Secretary, Mrs Ethel Sanders, met with members and viewed classes.
Later, at the Horsham Library, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove viewed the exhibit ‘Writing on the Wall’ and met with local artists and residents.
Then, at the Horsham RSL, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President, Mr John Brondsema and Mrs Pat Brondsema, attended an afternoon tea with local veterans, serving members and RSL staff.
Earlier, the Governor-General was represented at St Mary's Cathedral, Hobart, at the State Funeral for the late Mr Brian Harradine, by Colonel Stephen Carey ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
