Visit to New Zealand
On Friday 24 April 2015, following the departure from Australia of the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), the Proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia was signed by the Governor of Victoria, His Excellency the Honourable Alex Chernov AC QC.
In the afternoon, at Westpac Stadium, Wellington, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a St Kilda Football Club open training session hosted by the Strategic Projects Manager, Mr Ben Davies, at which the Governor-General met supporters and addressed players, coaches and support staff
Later, at the Pukeahu National War Memorial Park, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove visited the Australian Memorial hosted by the Chief Executive of Ministry for Culture and Heritage, Mr Lewis Holden, and laid poppies at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.
Then, at the National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum Building, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove visited the Great War Exhibition hosted by Executive Director, National Military Heritage Charitable Trust, Lieutenant General Rhys Jones CMNZ (Retd).
In the evening, at Government House, Wellington, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a dinner hosted in their honour by the Governor-General of New Zealand, Their Excellencies Lieutenant General the Right Honourable Sir Jerry Mateparae GNZM QSO and Lady Janine Mateparae.
