Visit to North Queensland

On Monday 12 May 2014, in Townsville, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor of Townsville Regional Council, Councillor Jenny Hill, visited Jezzine Barracks and in recognition of National Volunteers Week, met with representatives of local volunteer organisations.

Afterwards, in Innisfail, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor, Councillor Bill Shannon, attended a briefing on the Cassowary Coast Region.

Later, at the Innisfail Town Hall, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a community lunch in recognition of National Volunteers Week.

Then, at Innisfail State College, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Principal, Ms Kate McDonald, met with students and staff.

Afterwards, at the South Johnstone Sugar Mill, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the General Manager, Mr Phil Miskin, toured the mill and met with employees.

In the evening, at Brothers Leagues Club, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of the Innisfail Chamber of Commerce, Ms Rosalee Lankinen, and the Vice President, Mr Jake Roberts, attended a reception with local business representatives.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Councillor Bill Shannon and Mrs Sue Shannon, attended a dinner hosted in their honour.
