Visit to Parkes

On Wednesday 27 May 2015, at the Henry Parkes Centre, Parkes, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as guest of the Mayor Parkes Shire Council, Councillor Ken Keith OAM, opened the Moat Cottage to commemorate 200 years since the birth of Sir Henry Parkes.

Afterwards, at Parkes Library and Cultural Centre, the Governor-General, as guest of Councillor Keith, attended a civic lunch reception where the Governor-General met community members and launched the ‘Welcome to Parkes’ book by Mr Lex and Mrs June Weaver.

Then, the Governor-General, as guest of the General Manager, Parkes Shire Council, Mr Kent Boyd and the Regional Manager, Linfox Logistics, Mr Jim Murray, viewed the Parkes National Logistics Hub Linfox facilities.

Afterwards, at Memorial Hill, Parkes, the Governor-General, as guest of Councillor Keith, attended Parkes War Memorial rededication and read to children involved in the ‘Paint the Town REaD’ program.
