Visit to the United Kingdom

On Sunday 3 August 2014, in Glasgow, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Australian Chef de Mission, Mr Steve Moneghetti AM, met with Australian Athletes at the Commonwealth Games Village.

Afterwards, at the Scotstoun Sports Campus, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended the 2014 Commonwealth Games Mixed Doubles Squash Bronze Medal match between Australia and New Zealand.

Later, at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended the 2014 Commonwealth Games Men’s Hockey Final between Australia and India.

Then, at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended the 2014 Commonwealth Games Netball Final between Australia and New Zealand, at which the Governor-General, together with His Royal Highness Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex, presented the medals and gifts to the finalists.

Afterwards, at Scotstoun Sports Campus, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, attended the 2014 Commonwealth Games Mixed Doubles Squash Final between Australia and England.

Then, at Kelvin Hall, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, attended a reception hosted by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the Right Honourable David Cameron MP.

In the evening, at Hampden Park Stadium, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove represented Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony.

Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Baron Divavesi Waqa MP, by Colonel Dennis Scanlan CSM RFD ADC, Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
