Visit to Wagga Wagga, Lockhart and The Rock; Woolcock Institute of Medical Research; Kiribati Guard of Honour; Traditional Welcome; Meeting with the President; State Reception; Marine Training Centre; Kiribati Institute of Technology; Betio Coastwatcher's Memorial; Ceremonial Departure.

On Wednesday 28 March 2012 at Wagga Wagga, Lockhart and The Rock, New South Wales, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, met with families, emergency service workers and volunteers in flood affected areas.

In the evening, at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, Glebe, the Administrator officially welcomed guests to the Institute’s 10th Anniversary.

Earlier, at Bonriki International Airport, Tarawa Island, Kiribati, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO attended a ceremonial welcome and inspected the Kiribati Police Service Guard of Honour.

Afterwards, at the Eita Maneaba, the Governor-General, as guest of the Minister for Internal and Social Affairs, the Honourable Teima Onorio, attended a traditional cultural welcome.

Later, at State House, the Governor-General met with the President of Kiribati, His Excellency President Anote Tong.

Then, the Governor-General, as guest of the President of Kiribati and Madame Bernadette Meme Tong, attended a State Reception hosted in her honour.

Afterwards, the Governor-General, as guest of Captain Superintendent Boro Lucic, visited the Marine Training Centre and met with instructors and students.

Later, the Governor-General, as guest of the Minister for Labour and Human Resource Development, the Honourable Boutu Bateriki, and Acting Principal, Mr Mikaere Tioro, visited the Kiribati Institute of Technology and observed a woodwork demonstration, met with students and unveiled a plaque to commemorate the visit.

Then, at the Betio Coastwatcher’s Memorial, the Governor-General, as guest of the Mayor of Betio, Mr Romano Reo attended a ceremony and laid a wreath in recognition of Commonwealth and Kiribati lives lost in World War II.

Afterwards, at Bonriki International Airport, the Governor-General attended a ceremonial departure from Kiribati.
