On Wednesday 10 June 2009, in Newcastle, New South Wales, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General officially opened the Royal Freemasons' Benevolent Institution new aged care facility.

In the evening, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted a dinner in honour of Mr Stephen Brady's investiture as a Knight Commander in the Order of Orange Nassau. Earlier, the Governor-General sent the following message to His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh: "Michael and I join the people of Australia in sending Your Royal Highness our warmest greetings on the occasion of your birthday."
