On Wednesday 10 October 2007, at Banjo Paterson Park, Ryde, Sydney, the Administrator Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO as Patron of Aftercare, officially opened the Centenary Celebrations of Aftercare 1907 -2007: Emily's Party, one woman's vision that changed thousands of lives.

Later, at Government House, Canberra, the Administrator, hosted a reception for delegates attending the ASEAN Regional Forum for Heads of Defence, Universities' Colleges' and Institutions' Meeting (HDUCIM). Earlier, the Administrator, on behalf of the people and government of Australia, issued a statement of condolence and sympathy to the widow, family and comrades of Trooper David Pearce tragically killed while on active duty in Afghanistan. In the United Kingdom, at Buckingham Palace London, Their Excellencies, the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery were received by Her Majesty The Queen.
