On Wednesday 12 November 2008, at The Justice & Police Museum, Sydney, the Administrator, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, as Patron, presented Benefactor Awards on behalf of The Children's Cancer Institute Australia for Medical Research.

Earlier, in Paris, France, the Governor General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC received the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Human Rights, Ms Rama Yade. In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), His Excellency Mr Koichi Matsuura, toured the UNESCO Building and received briefings from the Deputy Director, Mr Kishore Rao, and the Assistant Director General Education, Mr Nicholas Burnett. In the evening, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of honour, attended a reception at the residence of the Australian Ambassador to France, His Excellency Mr David Ritchie. Earlier, Mr Bryce, as a guest of the Directeur du Musee de l'armee, General Robert Bresse, toured Les Invalides Military Museum.
