On Wednesday 19 March 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC, received the recipient of an ANZAC Scholarship sponsored by the Returned and Services League, Denmark WA, Ms Kaysanne Knuckey, accompanied by Mrs Myrtle McCain.
Afterwards, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Most Reverend Dr Giuseppe Lazzarotto, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See. The Apostolic Nuncio was accompanied by the Right Reverend Monsignor Jude Thaddeus Okolo (Counsellor). Later, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Isao Taoka, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Ambassador of the Republic of Paraguay. The??Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Reinaldo Pereira Mongelos (Consul-General), Consulate-General of Paraguay, Melbourne. In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Marlena Jeffery hosted to lunch: the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See; the Ambassador of the Republic of Paraguay; Mr Danny Casey and Mrs Annie Casey; Professor Greg Craven; Ms Lyndall McLean, AM; His Excellency Mr Mairtin O Fainin; Lieutenant General Laurie O'Donnell, AC (Retd) and Mrs June O'Donnell; Mr Reinaldo Pereira Mongelos and Mrs Maria De Pereira; Mr David Spencer; Brigadier Jim Wallace, AM (Retd); Dr Anne Whitehead and Mr Allan Deacon; and Professor Michael Wilding. In the evening, at O'Malley, ACT, Their Excellencies were represented at the 13th Dinner of the Friends of Syria in support of The Cancer Council ACT, by the Official Secretary to the Governor-General, Mr Malcolm Hazell CVO, who delivered a message of support on behalf of Mrs Jeffery, Patron of The Cancer Council ACT.
