On Wednesday 21 February 2007, at the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, Canberra, Their Excellencies the Governor-General, Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General officially opened the Emergency Response Centre.

In the afternoon, at the Royal Canberra Golf Club, the Governor-General, as a guest of Mr John Buckley, Board Member of Golf Australia, played in the Inaugural Trans Tasman Cup AM-AM. Afterwards, Their Excellencies attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General as Patron of Golf Australia officially opened the inaugural Trans Tasman Cup.
