On Wednesday 22 October 2008, in Shepparton, Victoria, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, in recognition of Universal Children's Day, visited the Arthur Dickman Childcare Centre where the Governor-General officially opened the Elizabeth Hildebrand Room.

In the afternoon, at the Rumbalara Football and Netball Centre, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the President, Mr Paul Briggs OAM, attended a lunch with indigenous leaders and participants of the Rumbalara Youth Leadership Program. Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Chair of the Northern Victoria Irrigation Renewal Project, Mr Richard Guy, and the Manager, Mr Murray Smith, toured properties in the Shepparton area and received a briefing on irrigation technology and water management. In the evening, at the Connection Centre, Shepparton, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a Civic Reception hosted in their honour by the Mayor of Greater Shepparton City Council, Councillor Eric Bott.
