On Wednesday 29 October 2008, at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC, laid a bouquet of flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, after which the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Director of the Australian War Memorial, Major General Steve Gower AO (Retd), toured the World War I exhibition.

In the afternoon, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General received the Chairperson, Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health, Ms Pat Anderson who was accompanied by: the Chief Executive Officer, Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health, Mr Mick Gooda; the Research Director, Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health, Professor Ian Anderson; and representative of CPR Communications, Mr Garrie Gibson. Afterwards, the Governor-General hosted an afternoon tea for members of the Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs: Capacity Building Program, participating in The Australian National University Crawford School Indonesia Project. Later, the Governor-General received a farewell call from the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia, His Excellency Mr Meas Kim Heng, who was accompanied by the Counsellor of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Mr Ang Eng Kimteng. In the evening, the Governor-General received Professor Don Aitken AO. Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Prime Minister, the Honourable Kevin Rudd MP, who remained for dinner.
