On Wednesday, 5 September 2007, at Admiralty House, Sydney, Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery received the President of the United States of America, the Honourable George W. Bush accompanied by the Secretary of State, Dr Condoleezza Rice; Ambassador of the United States of America, His Excellency Mr Robert McCallum Jr; and the Australian Ambassador to the United States of America, Mr Denis Richardson AO.

In the evening, Their Excellencies hosted a dinner for the APEC Business Advisory Council delegates. Guests included: Mr Geoff Brennan and Mrs Susan Brennan; Mr Peter Charlton; Ms Ruth Crooke; Mr Michael Crouch AO and Mrs Shanny Crouch; Mr Hoang Van Dung; Ms Le Thi Loi; Mr Mark Johnson and Mrs Sandra Johnson; Mr Anthony Nightingale and Mrs Christina Nightingale; Mr Michael Phillips; Mr Juan Francisco Raffo and Mrs Liliana Gliksman De Raffo; Mr Roberto Romulo and Mrs Olivai Montinola Romulo; Mr Yukio Shohtoku and Mrs Mitsuko Shohtoku; Mr Teng Theng Dar; and Mrs Joyce Teng. Earlier, at Darwin International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the President of the Democratic Republic of East Timor, His Excellency Dr Jose Manual Ramos-Horta, by Group Captain P. Viggers, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp. In the afternoon, at Canberra International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Canberra of the President of the People's Republic of China, His Excellency Hu Jintao, by Mr Malcolm Hazell CVO, Official Secretary to the Governor-General.
