On Wednesday 6 May 2009 at the Mpowerdome, Fadden, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC officially opened the 2009 YMCA Seniors Sports Carnival.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General received the Chair of the National Childcare Accreditation Council, Ms June McLoughlin and Ms Tonia Godhard AM. Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Managing Director, Australian Girls Choir, Ms Nicole Muir. Later, the Governor-General received the Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Chile, Ms Virginia Greville.
