On Wednesday, 9 May 2007, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC received from His Excellency Mr Stephen Chiketa, Letters of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador of the Republic of Zimbabwe. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Felix Nyamupinga (Counsellor); Mr Givemore Nyanzou (First Secretary); and Mr Moses Chikanyairo (Second Secretary), Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Indulis Berzins, Letters of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia. The Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery also received Mrs Ilze Gelnere. Then, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Dr Emile Rwamasirabo, Letters of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Michael Roux (Honorary Consul-General of the Republic of Rwanda) Melbourne. Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery received the Administrator of Norfolk Island, His Honour Mr Grant Tambling and Mrs Sandy Tambling. Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery hosted a luncheon in honour of the Ambassador of the Republic of Zimbabwe; the Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia and Mrs Ilze Gelnere; and the Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda. Other guests were: Mr Davids Darzins and Mrs Liga Darzins; Mr Janis Delins; Associate Professor David Dorward and Mrs Priscilla Dorward; the Honourable Alexander Downer, MP; Ms Denise Fisher and Mr Denis Fisher; Mr Bruno Krumins, AM; Dr Elizabeth Reid, AO and Mr Robert Bryan; Associate Professor Wayne Reynolds and Dr Ruth Reynolds; Mr David Ritchie, AO; Mr Michael Roux and Mrs Veronica Roux; the Honourable Kerry Sibraa, AO; the Honourable Peter Slipper, MP and Mrs Inge Slipper; Mr Patrick Suckling; His Honour Mr Grant Tambling and Mrs Sandy Tambling; Dr Valdis Tomanis and Mrs Maija Tomanis; and Mr Kim Wilkie, MP and Ms Anna Cronin.
