Weipa, Queensland
On Sunday 14 July 2019, Their Excellencies, General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley, as guests of Ms Marie Pitt, Traditional Owner, attended a Welcome to Country Ceremony and met with Indigenous representatives at the Western Cape Cultural Centre.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Michael Rowland, Chair, Weipa Town Authority, received a briefing on Weipa and the surrounding region at the Weipa Town Authority Chambers.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Rowland, attended a Civic Reception and met with community members at the Albatross Bay Resort.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms Fiona Kruger, Manager Community Relations, visited Rio Tinto's East Weipa Mine Centre and viewed culturally significant Indigenous areas.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled to Rockhampton.
