'Women, Leadership and Democracy in Australia' conference; Australian Command and Staff College graduation ceremony; Mawson's Huts Foundation Centenary dinner
On Thursday 1 December 2011, at the Museum of Australian Democracy, Old Parliament House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO delivered the opening address at the ‘Women, Leadership and Democracy in Australia’ conference.
Afterwards, at the Australian Defence Force Academy, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended the 2011 Graduation Ceremony for the Australian Command and Staff College, at which the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, gave an address and awarded the Governor-General’s prize to Lieutenant Colonel Tom McDermott.
Then, at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, Hobart, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, in recognition of the centenary of the departure from Hobart of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, attended the Mawson’s Huts Foundation dinner, at which the Governor-General, as Patron, delivered an address and officially launched the book by Mr Peter FitzSimons AM ‘Mawson and the Ice Men of the Heroic Age: Scott, Shackleton and Amundsen’.
