Za'atari, Jordan; Amman, Jordan
On Thursday 19 October 2017, at the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Za'atari Refugee Camp, Al-Mafraq, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove as guests of Country Director and Representative to Jordan, World Food Programme (WFP), Mr Mageed Yahia, viewed the facilities of the WFP Health Kitchen, camp primary school and met with staff and refugees.
Afterwards, at the UN Women's Oasis centre, Za'atari Refugee Camp, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of UN Women Representative to Jordan, Mr Ziad Sheikh, viewed the facilities at which the Governor-General announced a three year humanitarian aid partnership between Australia, World Food Programme and UN Women in Jordan. Australia will provide $12.5 million through these agencies to assist refugees as well as the vulnerable Jordanian communities affected by the crisis.
In the afternoon, at Joint Training Centre Jordan, as guests of the Commander, Operation Gallant Phoenix, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove viewed the facilities and had lunch with Coalition personnel. Afterwards the Governor-General received a briefing focused on current foreign fighter threats.
Afterwards, at Zarqa, as guests of the Commander, Quick Reaction Force (QRF), Brigadier General Mohammed Falah Al Zboon, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove viewed the facilities and meet with QRF soldiers and staff.
In the evening, at the Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s Residence, Amman, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, His Excellency Mr Miles Armitage, attended a reception with Government, community and business leaders.
