Governor-General to attend Paralympics

The Governor-General, who serves as Patron-in-Chief of Paralympics Australia, and Mr Beckett will attend the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

“As Patron-in-Chief, I am honoured and thrilled to be joining the team for the Opening Ceremony and the first few days of competition,” the Governor-General said.

“Australia’s Paralympic team are already record-breakers and change makers and, over the course of the games, their grit, passion and excellence will be on display to all Australians.”

During the visit the Governor-General will also:

  • visit the Olympic Village prior to competition beginning
  • attend several events where Australian athletes are competing
  • meet with Her Excellency Gillian Bird PSM, Australia’s Ambassador to France
  • honour the Anzac legacy and the service of Australians on the Western Front at the Sir John Monash Centre in Villers-Bretonneux
  • meet with Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor-General of Canada.

Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, will serve as Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia during the period of the visit.
