Harmony Week
The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley recorded a video message for Harmony Week.
Governor-General:
Harmony Week is an opportunity to reflect upon and celebrate our diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
To acknowledge that, while there isn’t a single or simple answer to the question of what it means to be Australian, we are a good people and a country to be proud of.
And that is worth celebrating.
Mrs Hurley:
Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and creating a sense of belonging for everyone.
It is about bringing people together.
Governor-General:
One of the joys of my role, with Linda, is meeting outstanding Australians across the length and breadth of our country.
People from different backgrounds, people with different experiences — who, each and every day, make a positive contribution to our community.
Mrs Hurley:
Those contributions can take many forms – big and small, noticed and unnoticed.
All are inspiring.
Governor-General:
We should celebrate that diversity – not just in Harmony Week but every day.
In Harmony Week, please consider nominating someone inspiring for recognition through the Order of Australia.
Mrs Hurley:
Anyone can nominate someone to be considered — and all Australians, regardless of their background or field of endeavour, can be recognised if they have had an impact at the local, national or international level.
We all know people in the community deserving of recognition.
Governor-General:
So, please consider nominating them so that we, as a nation, can say well done and thank you.
Go to www.gg.gov.au to find out how you can nominate someone from your community.
[Together]:
Happy Harmony Week!
