State Visit to Fiji
The Governor-General has accepted an invitation from His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, President of the Republic of Fiji, and will undertake a State Visit to Fiji from 25 – 29 April.
The visit is the first by a Governor-General to Fiji since 1993 and will include:
- a traditional welcome
- meetings with His Excellency President Katonivere and senior government leaders
- opening the Australian-funded newly refurbished RFNS Stanley Brown Wharf, a facility at the Pacific Centre for Pacific Crops and Trees, and a Women’s Accommodation Building at Nausori Market
- visiting Vanua Levu and opening Maramarua District School Kindergarten with His Excellency President Katonivere and Madam Filomena Katon
- a visit to Fiji’s National Disaster Management Office.
The State Visit builds on telephone and video calls the Governor-General has had with Pacific leaders over the last two years while COVID restrictions have prevented official visits to the region.
The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley will depart Australia following commemorative events to mark Anzac Day and return on 29 April. Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC, Governor of Victoria, will serve as Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia during the visit.
