“Once I realised the advice of my nomination for an Australian honour was genuine, I felt deeply honoured and humbled,” says David Polson AM.

When he was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS Mr Polson says nothing was known about it.

“I was motivated to help to improve knowledge of HIV … from that moment I pledged to help medical science raise awareness and knowledge, and to educate others about HIV/AIDS.”

He is Founder of Qtopia Sydney, Sydney’s first Queer museum which will feature exhibitions addressing the journey to legislative changes on homosexuality, education on gender and sexuality issues, and a commemoration of HIV/AIDS and gay oppression.

Mr Polson makes a specific point of thanking the late Professor David Cooper AC, “He saved my life.”

And also thanks many friends who have helped and supported his work and contribution to the community.
